About the Role
Sonoco Products Company is a global provider of consumer, industrial, healthcare, and protective packaging. We are seeking an Operations Director to lead manufacturing operations at our Chicago composite can and container facility employing 350+ people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for all production, maintenance, and materials functions at the Chicago plant
- Drive KPI performance across safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC)
- Lead a continuous improvement culture using Sonoco Manufacturing Excellence (SME) / lean tools
- Partner with HR on talent development, succession planning, and employee relations
- Manage $50M+ operating budget and capital project planning
- Collaborate with supply chain, sales, and R&D to support customer programmes
Requirements
- ✓10+ years progressive manufacturing leadership in packaging or related industry
- ✓Proven track record managing 200+ person operations
- ✓Strong lean manufacturing or TPM background; Six Sigma Black Belt preferred
- ✓P&L management experience of $40M+ operating budgets
- ✓Experience with composite, metal, or rigid plastic packaging a plus
- ✓Bachelors degree in Engineering or Operations Management; MBA preferred
